Poppy Parade

"Every year these dependable harbingers of summer warmth 'parade' in our gardens, showing off their colorful hats. From unfolding buds and full blooms to distinctive seed pods, these poppies inspire me to paint every year; an annual celebration like a Fourth-of-July parade. This original painting was chosen to make an exclusive edition of giclee reproductions." Kathleen

Transparent watercolor, 22" x 30". Price $1500.
Wrecking Ball

"This piece is part of my Industrial Evolution Series that reflects the changes America is undergoing in its struggling technological and manufacturing industries. This painting is specifically inspired by the Charleston, S.C. Naval Salvage Yard. And there sits the raven, observing. Like us, a creature of great adaptability, creativity and survival intelligence. The raven is figuring out its next move in the evolution of survival." Kathleen

Transparent watercolor, 22" x 30". Price $900
Orchid Dreaming

"Orchids" are one of my favorite flowers. I enjoy painting them each winter in Florida". Kathleen.

Watercolor and acrylics, 22" x 30". Price $650
Amaryllas

The Amaryllas is a winter-bloomer. In the north they are on window sills in pots and we watch their daily progress from bulb to glorious bloom. In the south they emerge prolifically from gardens everywhere announcing spring." Kathleen

Mixed watercolor media, 22" x 30". Price $650

Winter Shadows

When conditions are right, pigment and water are combined on paper and placed outdoors in sub-freezing temperatures to catch the elusive ice crystal patterns on my watercolor paper. Nature freezes the pigment which inspires my unique development of each painting in this series. "Winter Shadows catches the warmth of a late sun on the ice with shadows from vestige leaves." Kathleen

Mixed watercolor media, 22" x 30". Price $2000

Amigos

"A Spanish word for friends describes this classic partnership in the animal kingdom of the symbiotic relationship between birds and the four legged beasts. This is one painting in the "Journey Horse" series. The strong warrior horses refer to perserverance in our personal journeys." Kathleen

Mixed watercolor media, 15" x 22". Price $700

Poppy Parade II

"Every year these dependable harbingers of summer warmth 'parade' in our gardens, showing off their colorful hats. From unfolding buds and full blooms to distinctive seed pods, these poppies inspire me to paint every year; an annual celebration like a Fourth-of-July parade." Kathleen

Mixed watercolor media, 22" x 30". Price $1000
Nike's Broken Wing

"In the extensive series called "Contemplation of Flight", I used various Nike (Greek mythological character) sculptures as my inspiration for a symbol of flight, that universal dream to soar like a bird. As dynamic, powerful wings were carved from stone, we humans transcend from our earthly limitations in our enternal pursuit of spiritual enrichment." Kathleen

Mixed watercolor media. Price $900

Calla in the Mist

"I couldn't resist painting the dramatic colors in these calla lillies". Kathleen

Mixed watercolor media, 15" x 22". Price $600

Winter Dynamic I

"Winter temperatures of 20 degrees, a splash of water and quick pouring of pigment started 'Winter Dynamic' I and II. I love to harness a bit of Mother Natures' lacey frost patterns for the beginning texture and energy in my frozen crystal series paintings. Living on the shores of Lake Superior has inspired 30 years of working with the process of studying freezing and thawing ice patterns, and photograghing and developing starts into a close up view of the dynamics of winter." Kathleen

Exhibited in the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors, 2009. Recipient of the Dr. Donald and Helen Budd Burness Memorial Award.

Mixed watermedia, 22" x 30". Price $2500

Exhibited in the Transparent Watercolor Society of America National Exhibition, 2009.

Transparent watercolor, 22" x 30". Price $1800
Sunset-Poppies

"Sunset-Poppies" is one of my extensive series of flower paintings based on the life-death-life cycles of flowers. The flower in this case is my favorite, the Oriental Poppy, that blooms so gloriously in my northern garden and never looks more stunning than when the low light of day's end back lights the flame colored petals. If you look closely at the leafy thicket you will find buds, unfolding blossoms, full poppy blooms and mature seed pods ready to spew their seeds for next year's poppy blossoms, completing their life's cycle." Kathleen

Mixed watermedia, 22" x 30". Price $1500
The Dance

"In 'The Dance', the motion of dance forms the visual line. Light sparkles through the linear forms of graceful movement. As an undercurrent in most of my work you find a rhythmic element of energy and motion juxtaposed with restful structural forms. In this painting a syncopated beat of light, dark, color, texture and line creates the rhythm that dances across the painting." Kathleen

Exhibited in the Watercolor USA 2006 National Exhibition. Mixed watermedia, 22" x 30". Price $1800
