Invention Reflection

Winter Dynamic I

"Winter temperatures of 20 degrees, a splash of water and quick pouring of pigment started 'Winter Dynamic' I and II. I love to harness a bit of Mother Natures' lacey frost patterns for the beginning texture and energy in my frozen crystal series paintings. Living on the shores of Lake Superior has inspired 30 years of working with the process of studying freezing and thawing ice patterns, and photograghing and developing starts into a close up view of the dynamics of winter." The Dance

"In 'The Dance', the motion of dance forms the visual line. Light sparkles through the linear forms of graceful movement. As an undercurrent in most of my work you find a rhythmic element of energy and motion juxtaposed with restful structural forms. In this painting a syncopated beat of light, dark, color, texture and line creates the rhythm that dances across the painting." Kathleen/Completed 2005

Exhibited in the Watercolor USA 2006 National Exhibition. Watercolor, acrylic and charcoal, 22" x 30". Price $2800

Transformation

"This painting is a significant piece from my extensive series (1900-2000) called "Contemplation of Flight." I was inspired by two contrasting human images of flight, one the broken wing of Nike and the other the fragility and capability of the dragonfly. Transforming from one to the other represents how we as humans make necessary changes as we go through life's struggles." Kathleen/Completed 2000

Acrylic on canvas
41" x 54". Price $4000

Amethyst Ice

"In 'Amethyst Ice' I was able to capture a beautiful display of nature's 'lace': that intricate frost pattern often seen on windows in winter. Developing what Mother Nature gives me, I express my love and inspiration of winter color, far from the bleakness of white and gray that stereotypes our northern location." Kathleen/Completed 2014.

Watermedia.
28" x 43". Price $3800

Lines of Communication

"This painting in the Industrial Evolution Series begins with energy and motion depicted by calligraphic lines and shapes. The shapes suggest a ship, dock and harbor; an industrial setting amidst power poles and telephone lines which are needed for communication. The ravens are busy repositioning themselves, like us, in a time of evolution and change." Kathleen/Completed 2012.

Transparent watercolor, 22" x 30". Price $1500

Poppy Parade III

"Every year these dependable harbingers of summer warmth 'parade' in our gardens, showing off their colorful hats. Watercolor and acrylic, 22" x 30".
Price $1000

Nike's Broken Wing

"In the extensive series called 'Contemplation of Flight', I used various Nike (Greek mythological character) sculptures as my inspiration for a symbol of flight, that universal dream to soar like a bird. As dynamic, powerful wings were carved from stone, we humans transcend from our earthly limitations in our enternal pursuit of spiritual enrichment." Kathleen/Completed 1998

Watercolor, acrylic and charcoal, 22" x 30"
Price $1200

Sunset-Poppies

"Sunset-Poppies" is one of my extensive series of flower paintings based on the life-death-life cycles of flowers. The flower in this case is my favorite, the Oriental Poppy, that blooms so gloriously in my northern garden and never looks more stunning than when the low light of day's end back lights the flame colored petals. If you look closely at the leafy thicket you will find buds, unfolding blossoms, full poppy blooms and mature seed pods ready to spew their seeds for next year's poppy blossoms, completing their life's cycle." Kathleen/Completed 2010
